Natural methods to protect eroding shorelines are better often cheaper for the property owner, easier to build for the contractor and better for the marine environment, according to a new report on so called “living shorelines.”
Jim Francesconi, who died of leukemia, lead North Carolina’s Artificial Reef and Shoreline Restoration efforts for years. North Carolina has a planed deployment of a Memorial Artificial Reef that is delayed several months.
The memorial Reef site will have a ship renamed, The James J. Francesconi, it will be scuttled on the Howard Chapin Reef, about 12 miles from Beaufort Inlet.
